Use the correction form. It captures what you saw and what you expected, which is what we need to reproduce the problem, and it goes straight into the review queue.
Report a correctionA serial will not decode
Start with the brand’s “serial number not found” guide — most cases are a transcription error or a format outside the main sequence. If you have ruled those out, send us a report; unrecognised formats are how the reference gets extended.
Serial lookupA source has moved or changed
Manufacturers reorganise their support pages regularly. If a reference link is dead or the table behind it has changed, tell us which one and we will re-review the rules that depend on it.

Useful, especially with a pointer to documented formats. We add manufacturers only once their serial formats can be sourced and tested, so a link to solid documentation moves things along considerably.

Check My Guitar does not currently run an inbox. The correction form is the way to reach us, and it is not a lesser option — it captures what we actually need to reproduce a problem, and every submission is read by a person.
Send a reportYou can leave an email address on the form if you would like a reply. It is optional, and it is used only to answer that report.
What we cannot help with
We cannot tell you whether an instrument is authentic, what it is worth, or whether you should buy it. Those need a physical examination by someone qualified, and no amount of detail over email substitutes for it. The disclaimer sets out the limits in full.
We also cannot confirm ownership, help trace a stolen instrument, or provide documentation for insurance. For a stolen instrument, the manufacturer and the police are the right first calls.
What makes a report useful
- What you entered and which manufacturer you selected.
- What the tool returned.
- What you believe the correct answer is.
- Anything supporting that — a source, a receipt, a manufacturer’s reply.
The serial itself is optional in all of this. A description of the format is usually enough, and we would rather you kept the number to yourself.
