Report an incorrect result

If a result is wrong — or right for the wrong reason — this is how it gets fixed. Every report is read by a person.

Manufacturer

Which manufacturer the incorrect result relates to.

Serial number (optional)

Leave this blank if you would rather not share it — a description of the format is usually enough for us to reproduce the problem. If you do include it, it is stored for the reviewer and is never published.

What the lookup returned

For example: “Fender, 1994–1995, high confidence, US letter-prefix format”.

What appears incorrect

The year, the factory, the confidence, the explanation — whichever part is wrong, and why you think so.

Suggested correction (optional)

What the result should say instead, if you know.

Supporting source (optional)

A link, a book, a manufacturer's reply, or the instrument's own paperwork. This is what moves a report from plausible to actionable.

What happens next

Before you file

Two things that are usually not errors, and are worth ruling out first.

Several results for one serial. That is deliberate. Some numbering systems were reused, so more than one reading is genuinely consistent with the same number.

A two-year range on a Fender. Also deliberate — Fender publishes ranges, because necks and bodies were dated separately.

The serial field is optional and we mean it. A description of the format is usually enough to reproduce a problem, and we would rather not hold identifiers for specific instruments.
